Surgical Root Canal Therapy (Apicoectomy) in Gaithersburg, Silver Spring and Frederick, MD

A Root Canal procedure is performed to maintain a tooth that has been damaged by decay, gum disease, or trauma. A root canal procedure will treat the root of the tooth (and its canals) through the inside of the tooth. However, there may be instances when it is necessary to directly evaluate and treat the tooth and root. This may be because of damage to the structural integrity of the tooth or a bacterial infection that is non-responsive to conventional root canal procedures. The direct surgical access will allow Dr. Romanow or Dr. Wentworth the ability to evaluate the tooth root and in particular the “apex” of the tooth. That is why this procedure is often referred to as an apicoectomy. This is a procedure to treat the apex of the tooth if conventional root canal therapy has been unsuccessful.

Drs. Romanow or Wentworth will make every effort to explain if this procedure is appropriate for you and also to describe what you can expect during and after the procedure.

As always, we offer a variety of anesthesia options to you during this procedure.
